Description
The Glass Menagerie
For the first time in two decades, Melbourne Theatre Company presents Tennessee Williams’ classic that reshaped modern theatre.
Celebrated stage and screen actor Alison Whyte (Death of a Salesman) returns in the much-anticipated role of Amanda Wingfield, the heartbreakingly hopeful mother who clings to the past while trying to control the future. As she strives to secure stability for her daughter Laura, her son Tom (Tim Draxl) grapples with his desire for freedom, torn between duty and escape. When a long-awaited ‘gentleman caller’ enters their lives, he may either fulfill Amanda’s dreams or shatter her carefully constructed illusions.
Winner of the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play in 1945 and the first-ever Tony Award for Best Play Revival, The Glass Menagerie is a haunting, poetic portrait of a family held together by fragile illusions.
Directed by Mark Wilson (Jacky, Much Ado About Nothing), this sharp and poignant production of a timeless masterpiece is an unmissable theatrical experience.
